Gujarati Wedding Photography Shot List: Every Ritual to Capture

A Gujarati wedding is a series of beautiful rituals spread over several days. Sharing a clear shot list with your photographer makes sure no important moment is missed. Here is the checklist we use at Deep Studio – save it and share it with your family.

Before the wedding day

  • Ganesh Sthapana: the family puja, close-ups of the idol, elders performing the aarti.
  • Mandap Muhurat: the first rituals at the mandap, family members together.
  • Pithi (Haldi): candid laughter, close-ups of the turmeric paste, cousins joining in.
  • Mehendi: detail shots of the design, the bride’s hands with the groom’s name hidden, the mehendi artist at work.
  • Sangeet and Garba / Dandiya: wide shots of the circle, dancing couples, family performances, slow-motion video clips for Reels.

Wedding day – getting ready

  • Bride’s outfit, panetar or gharchola, jewellery and footwear laid out as detail shots.
  • Final touches – the dupatta, the maang tikka, the mother helping.
  • Groom getting ready, the safa (turban) being tied.

Wedding day – ceremonies

  • Jaan (Baraat): the groom’s arrival, dancing, band and dhol.
  • Ponkhvu: the bride’s mother welcoming the groom – a playful moment, including the nose-pulling tradition.
  • Madhuparka and Antarpat: the bride’s entry behind the cloth, the first look when the antarpat is lowered.
  • Kanyadaan and Hast Milap: emotional close-ups of parents and the joined hands.
  • Mangal Fera and Saptapadi: each phera, the seven steps, wide shots of the mandap.
  • Kansar: the couple feeding each other.
  • Akhiyan Mithi and family portraits: plan a list of family groups in advance so it runs quickly.
  • Vidaai: an emotional farewell – stay close, the best moments are unplanned.

Reception

  • The couple’s entry, stage portraits with guests, décor and food details.
  • A short couple session outside with evening light, 10–15 minutes is enough.

Tips for families

  • Share the muhurat timings with your photographer a week before.
  • Name one cousin as the “photo coordinator” to gather family groups.
  • Keep a small, well-lit space for getting-ready photos.
  • Ask for short teasers – families love sharing a one-minute film on WhatsApp and Instagram the next day.
